Political Order? City Hall Bans Concert against Re-Opening Foreign-Language Schools

We Are Against Re-Opening of Foreign-Language Schools initiative has issued a release in which it says that a previously-planned concert to take place on Aznavour Square near Moscow Cinema in downtown Yerevan today will be canceled as the City Hall has not permitted the initiative to hold it, Tert.am reported.

The release explains that the City Hall has forbidden the concert based on a written appeal made by Moscow Cinema LLC CEO M. Adoyan on 4 July 2010 which says that such mass event held on Aznavour Square hinder the cinema’s normal operational routine.

Further the statement says that this creates a precedent when any civil initiative can be banned citing the will of a director f an entertainment facility in nearby public areas.

“We definitely see a political order in this decision,” reads the statement, adding that while their application was being discussed in the City Hall on June 18 it cited not the above mentioned problem related to Moscow Cinema but the cleaning work expected to be done after the concert.

“We also consider it worth mentioning that even in this case the City Hall, according to the law, could not reject [our application],” reads the statement.
