During a question and answer period at the Conrad Adenauer Fund in Germany, President Serzh Sargsyan was asked by an Azerbaijani when he would be able to return to his native village in Aghdam.

“It was very painful for us, the Azerbaijani Armenian community, to hear that question of the Azerbaijani provocateur. We would also like to ask the President of Azerbaijan when we can return to our birthplaces – Baku, Shahumyan or other settlements,” President of the Assembly of Azerbaijani Armenians Grigori Ayvazyan told a press conference today.

He assures that the Azerbaijani Armenian community will definitely raise the issue, especially in this stage, when the return of refugees is considered one of the main issues of settlement.

“How can Ilham Aliyev speak about the return of their refugees if he refuses to ensure our return to our homes?” Grigori Ayvazyan said.

Refugees of both parties should have an equal right to return to their homeland,” the head of the Azerbaijan Armenian community stated.

Grigori Ayvazyan says 30 Azerbaijani Armenians, including himself, are ready to return to their former place of residence – Baku – to prove that Azerbaijan is unable to ensure the security of several Armenian. “In this case how can Azerbaijan ensure the security of a large ethnic group under the conditions of the broad autonomy it promises to give?”
